This is a poem I wrote during a very difficult breakup. For years I haven’t shared it out of respect for the other person involved. I’m sharing it today because a healthy amount of time has finally passed.
Since life ebbs and flows, an opportunity to reflect is what we need to remind us of how far we've come. Unfair expectations and unmet goals can make us feel like failures but progress, whether large or small is still progress and we should be grateful for it.
I was listening to some of the latest songs when time stopped. I was no longer as strong and fearless...I was transported back to a time when I didn’t believe I was enough. This post is for every brown girl who has ever been haunted by demeaning lyrics.
A huge part of my Self-Love Journey has been intentionally setting time aside to give myself exactly what I need. It doesn't necessarily make life easier but it ensures that I'm better equipped to handle and endure the hard times.
