Dear Dad,
It is Father’s Day.
Thank you for the pep talks.
Thank you for the “never tell a boy you love him” speeches.
Thank you for understanding my inability to trust for so many years.
Thank you for your honesty,
It taught me to understand that parents aren’t perfect and they don’t have it all figured out.
Thank you for the “you’re a black woman in America” conversations
Thank you for understanding my intense desire to love boys who acted like men.
Thank you for listening to my stories and entertaining my philosophical questions.
I know you don’t have all the answers, so I’m learning to appreciate your “just Google it”
Happy Father’s Day to the man who gave me his crude sense of humor, love of conspiracies theories and distrust of most everything.
I love you dad.
