I Love You

If a writer gives you her favorite book, she is saying “I love you” in the most honest way she knows how.

If a poet shares her words with you, she is taking you to the warmest part of her soul.

Sometimes “I love you” plays hide-and-go-seek behind my tongue so I use the words of my favorite poets to tell you that I love you. When my own words fail me, I rely on the world of poetry to save me once again.

I’m still unlearning the idiosyncrasies of the unrealistic love I spent 22 years reading about.

I’m still learning how to say “I love you”
