2024 Reading Challenge: March

Another month, another monthly reading wrap up!

Hi, if you’re new here, I’m Briana! I am a 20-something trying to navigate adulting & this ever-changing human experience. I love reading and I love writing so at the end of every month I share insight into the books I’ve read that month. All my opinions are filtered through my own personal lens which is based on my perception of reality. If you love a book I don’t, that’s great! If you dislike a book I love, that’s absolutely awesome! The best part about reading is that we could all read the same book and come away having completely different experiences.

This month I encountered books I absolutely loved and some I can’t see myself thinking of ever again. I was in a bit of a slump and spent most of the month struggling through books. I read 6 books in March; I rated two books 5 stars, one 4.5 stars, two 3.5 stars and I did the unthinkable and rated one book 2 stars.

This month’s 5-star reads were *spicy* so I will not be mentioning them by name (forgive me but a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do). The first was a hilarious story by Kimberly Lemming that felt like a facetime call with a messy and super-funny bestie. It was an unexpected love story with a phenomenal narration. The second was another unexpected love story by Brynne Weaver that had me hooked from the very beginning. The slow-burn love story had our main characters barely brushing fingers for the first 50% of the book and I ate it up!

My 4.5-star read was “Iron Flame” by Rebecca Yarros. This second book in The Empyrean Series (often known as the Fourth Wing series) is well-paced and chaotic. I’m still on the fence about how I feel about the ending of the book (honestly, I’m leaning towards hating it, but don’t tell anyone).

My 3.5-star reads were “Vanessa Jared’s Got a Man”, a debut novel by LaQuette and “Faebound” by Saara El-Arifi who is also the author of one of my favorite series, “The Ending Fire Trilogy”.

Finally, I was put into an extremely comprising position after reading “Assistant to the Villain”. After being held at metaphorical gunpoint (I’m being facetious here), I gave my first ever 2-star rating. It hurt my heart to do it, but a 3-star rating just did not feel like an appropriate description of how I truly felt.

I didn’t read NEARLY the number of books I wanted to this month but I’m proud of myself for consuming words every single day, in some form or another (i.e. audiobook, eBook or physical book). My reading goal for this year is 45 books and I’ve finished 23 books so far, so I am very very very very happy. I’m more than halfway to my goal and it’s only been 3 months. Yay me!

Have a fantastic April! Buh-bye!
