The First Half of This Post was Written on December 17th
Would you believe me if I told you that after 11 months, 92 books, some odd thousand pages, countless hours of audiobook listening time and thousands of swipes across my Kindle that in the lovely month of December, I’ve read a whopping 0 books!!
I’ve been in slumps before, hell, I have a vacation home in Slump-Ville butttttt I’ve never encountered a slump like this before.
I honestly don’t feel uninspired or unhappy. I also don’t feel bored or overstimulated yet every single time I try to pick up a book, physical, e-book, audiobook, or otherwise, I’m utterly uninterested.
Perhaps my brain has an imaginary boundary at 93 books a year. I don’t know! However, what I do know, is that the year 2024 has been extremely good to me. I’ve had such a beautiful year with so many momentous occasions.
In 2024, I started my second year of teaching, celebrated one year of marriage, ran my first 10k, and then my first half-marathon!!
93 books!! The original goal was 45 so I’ve more than doubled January’s reading goal. I’m so much stronger, I’m so much more disciplined, I’m so much more gracious, I’m so much more comfortable in the body I inhibit and it’s all thanks to all that 2024 has brought and taught me.
Let’s take a cute walk down memory lane as I share my favorite books from the year..
Here are my favorite books from 2024:
-The entire ACOTAR series by Sarah J. Maas (which I read twice)
-The Scythe Series by Neal Shusterman
-The “That Time I Got Drunk…” series by Kimberly Flemming
-The “Part of Your World” Interconnected Series by Abby Jimenez
-The “Six of Crows” Duology by Leigh Bardugo
As I’m writing this I’m realizing that my favorite books all part of series. I’m guessing I just really like character development and longer story lines.
The Second Half of This Post was Written on December 27th
Ten days later…ahem…where were we?
Oh boy, do I have the update for you! Over the last ten days, I’ve finished two books. One was an audiobook that yanked me out of my reading slump; the second was a book I’ve seen all over booktok and wanted to try. The audiobook was an audible original called “Not Another Christmas Rom Com” by A.J. Pine. It was so cute and fun, I absolutely loved it. The second book was my long-anticipated read of “The Cinnamon Bun Book Store” by Laurie Gilmore.
As I look back on 2024, I’m so proud of all that I’ve accomplished this year. Today, I’m going to kick up my feet, reminisce on the wonderful year behind me and with grounded and grateful anticipation I’ll begin to look forward to the year ahead.
Thank you for joining me on this 2024 reading challenge! I could’ve never expected more than doubling my original reading goal! Have a fantastic day and a Happy-Almost-New Year!
